It’s a big time for some of America’s favorite car manufacturers, and both Cadillac and Jeep have recently unveiled their first electric vehicles in the form of the Cadillac LYRIQ and the Jeep Wagoneer S. There’s a lot of pressure riding on both manufacturers because it’s a market that needs to be entered meticulously to not only meet the increasing demand for BEVs from the public, particularly from urban drivers here in New York City, but also to stick out from the competition. Of course, Cadillac is no stranger to such a task.
The phrase "It’s a Cadillac" has become synonymous with a high-quality product. When you compare something to a Cadillac, it’s a proclamation that if you’re looking to capitalize on the essence of the words “premium” and “luxury,” you should trust said brand. The launch of the Cadillac LYRIQ and the Jeep Wagoneer S is a momentous occasion because both manufacturers have long anticipated entering the realm of electric vehicles, and the results are rather fascinating for both fans and critics alike. If you’re interested in a Cadillac LYRIQ for sale in New York City but are curious how the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S stacks up against it, you’ve come to the right place.
Electricity Gives Shocking Results
The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ and the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S are two prime examples of luxury electric SUVs. The driving force behind the LYRIQ and Wagoneer S is their substantial batteries, which, once combined with electric motors, provide the impressive results we get. How do the two BEVs compare?
For starters, the Wagoneer S offers one powertrain configuration: a 100 kWh battery paired with dual motors. The LYRIQ, on the other hand, has a 102 kWh battery and is offered in two different powertrain configurations––one with a single motor and one with dual motors, much like the Wagoneer S setup. Another problem with the Wagoneer S is that the Launch Edition comes at a hefty price, with an MSRP of $70,795. With a base MSRP of $57,195, the 2024 LYRIQ starts at over $10,000 less than the base Wagoneer S.[a] Even with the vastly lower starting price, the LYRIQ and Wagoneer S are quite comparable in terms of each vehicle's total range.
Jeep boasts of having over 300 miles of range with the Wagoneer S but does not yet have official numbers. Meanwhile, the all-wheel drive 2024 LYRIQ has an official EPA-estimated 307 miles on a full charge. If your LYRIQ is built with the single motor configuration, this is raised by seven miles, up to 314 miles. If you live in New York City, having a BEV like the LYRIQ or Wagoneer S makes traveling around far more cost-effective, whether you’re driving through Hell’s Kitchen, the Upper East Side by Central Park, or heading over to Newark.

Could Have, Should Have
The 2024 Wagoneer S is built with some of Jeep’s most advanced tech, offering dedicated screens for infotainment, climate control, your instrument cluster, and the front-row passenger. Everything is suitably modern. However, there’s a problem. In a world where the new Cadillac LYRIQ costs significantly less than the 2024 Wagoneer S, the Wagoneer S needs to be more than suitably modern if it wants to stick out from the competition––the front passenger screen in the Wagoneer S can only do so much for its appeal. But as it turns out, Cadillac is famously known for sticking out amongst the crowd.
Let’s compare how both manufacturers tackle tech in their new electric midsize SUVs. In the 2024 Wagoneer S, the display serving as the infotainment center is a 12.3-inch screen. Again, it is suitably modern, as we said. However, turn your attention to the 2024 LYRIQ and its 33-inch screen that stretches from the left end of your cabin to the halfway point, seamlessly connecting your digital instrument cluster with a top-notch infotainment center. It’s one thing to have a screen that seamlessly connects everything, but if the vehicle didn’t have a strong processor and graphics chip inside to display it all properly, it wouldn’t look at all appealing. You don’t need to worry about this with the LYRIQ because the screen is crystal clear and offers an incredible 9K resolution.
It can’t be understated how impressive the 33-inch screen in the LYRIQ is. The 33-inch screen in the LYRIQ isn’t only beautiful with its stupendously high pixel count, but it’s a statement that says, “We’re Cadillac, and there’s a reason you know our name.” Cadillacs have always had a tremendously luxurious atmosphere, and with a screen that’s more ahead of the curve than the “large” infotainment centers you’ll find elsewhere––like in the Wagoneer S––driving the LYRIQ feels like you’re stepping into a not-too-distant-future. As usual, Cadillac drivers can experience the best of the best today, and everyone else will get the chance some other day. It won’t be long before screens akin to what the LYRIQ offers become popular choices, and Jeep missed the mark with the Wagoneer S.
The LYRIQ also has Cadillac’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system, which is a proven technology that will soon be compatible with 750,000 miles of roads across North America. Jeep has introduced a similar system known as the Jeep Hands-Free Active Driving Assist System for the 2024 Wagoneer S, but it is limited to just 125,000 miles of roads and is still unproven. Many people have heard about hands-free driving, and many drivers want a vehicle that supports it, but if you’re buying a brand new BEV and want to go hands-free on the highways around New York City, the LYRIQ is the way to go.
Let’s also take a look at some aspects of the two models' interiors. The Jeep Wagoneer S offers an interior made of recycled materials, which is a great effort by Jeep to be environmentally friendly. However, for the price of the Wagoneer S, you’d hope for something a bit more premium than the economically sound synthetic materials commonly found in cheaper models. It may sound hypocritical to throw shade at Jeep for using recycled materials in a vehicle specifically designed to eliminate emissions, but the Wagoneer S is simply too pricey to not treat its customers with something that gives them the feeling they’ve got their money’s worth. With the Cadillac, that’s what you get as you can opt for available Nappa Leather seats, and you’ll also find surfaces made of open-pore wood within the Cadillac’s interior. You simply won’t find those with the Wagoneer S.

Time for Some Juice
How do the 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ and Jeep Wagoneer S compare regarding charging times? Without gas, you won’t be going to the pump anymore, which not only has the benefit of saving you money but also means you can charge your vehicle at home. Your home has electricity but likely doesn’t have a gasoline pump. Refilling your “tank”––charging your battery––at home while your vehicle isn’t in use and you’re inside resting, eating dinner, or sleeping for the night is one of the most luxurious parts of owning an electric vehicle in New York City.
With both vehicles, charging is possible via Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 charging. Installation of a Level 2 home charger is available with both BEVs, but Jeep has yet to release the info on how fast we can expect its Level 2 charger to perform. As for Cadillac, the 2024 LYRIQ, with the standard 11.5 kW Level 2 charger, can add up to 31 miles of range per hour of charging. That's enough to fully recharge the battery from empty in approximately 10 hours. An optional 19.2 kW Level 2 charger is also available, which can add around 51 miles of range per hour.
Jeep has at least confirmed you can expect to recharge from 20% to 80% in 23 minutes if you’re using a public Level 3 fast charger, with Cadillac touting 77 miles of added range in around 10 minutes. There’s no shortage of public charging stations here in New York City, and it seems like more are being installed every single day. Both vehicles' charging specs are exceptional, but given the large price differential between the LYRIQ and the Wagoneer S, Cadillac’s BEV looks far more impressive.
The Right BEV for New York City
Even if the LYRIQ wasn’t anywhere as feature-rich as the Wagoneer S, you’d still have to forgive it owing to its massive price differential. However, that’s not the case. The LYRIQ is an incredible vehicle when stacked up against the Wagoneer S, which likely won't catch many people off-guard since Cadillac is considered one of the most prized luxury brands. In an excellent turn of events, you can get behind the wheel of an amazing Cadillac SUV instead of the Jeep equivalent and spend less doing so. We believe the 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ is the perfect luxury electric SUV for drivers in New York City looking to jump head-first into one of the best BEV experiences on the market.
